![]() So now this thing is running Ubuntu but I still can't figure out how to make the damn pfSense installer start up on this thing.Įdit: SO, I'm cozying up to the EFI shell and figured out how to map/mount the pfSense media, and found the boot圆4.efi file, and found when I tried running it that while the proc is 圆4, the EFI shell is IA32. So I pulled that down, use Rufus to put it on my flash drive, and try to boot from it it works. ![]() I asked the OEM about installing Linux on this thing after finding an article saying "BIOS options must be modified" they just directed me to an Ubuntu/Linuxium ISO to try. I've tried other versions of pfSense, other install images I've even tried burning the ISO to CD and booting from that, and I get the same behavior where it appears as a valid boot option but it just brings me right back to the menu with no error. I've tried other flash drives, and the only difference I've seen with some is that others won't even list as a boot device. I can make bootable USBs for pfSense all day, and it'll appear as a bootable option in the boot device menu on the machine, but when I select it the screen goes black as if it's going to start booting, but brings me RIGHT back to the boot device menu. No legacy BIOS mode to be found anywhere in the setup pages. Well, come to find out this particular machine appears to be UEFI-only. ![]() Okay, so pull the memstick image down, use Rufus to 'burn' it to USB, boot from it, install, config interfaces, donesky. So I acquired one of these bad boys and got my hopes up of using this to replace the portable jet airplane 1U Supermicro server I've got running my pfSense instance currently. I can't figure this one out for the life of me. I've not usually had trouble making bootable media to install operating systems but this one has to take the cake for me.
